The PR1 Peak-to-Peak trail is considered one of the most remarkable hikes in Madeira, stretching about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo, the island\u2019s two highest peaks. While the distance might seem manageable, the rugged terrain and steep ascents add difficulty. It turns this into a moderate to challenging hike. The hike typically takes between 5 to 7 hours depending on your pace and fitness level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lage und L\u00e4nge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Peak-to-Peak trail (PR1) can be hiked in either direction. You can start at Pico do Arieiro or Pico Ruivo. Parking is available near both trail heads. Either park at Pico do Arieiro or Achada do Teixeira, close to Pico Ruivo. The trail spans approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) one way, with an elevation gain of around 650 meters in both directions. Depending on your fitness level (and how many photos you stop to take), the hike takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way, making it 5 to 7 hours for a round trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schwierigkeitsgrad<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Der Weg ist gut gepflegt und an vielen Stellen gesichert, dennoch ist er aufgrund der zahlreichen Stufen, Steigungen und H\u00f6henmeter als moderat bis anspruchsvoll einzustufen. Wer nicht die ganze Strecke hin und zur\u00fcck wandern m\u00f6chte, kann den Weg auch einseitig gehen und sich f\u00fcr ca. 100\u2013120 Euro (Stand 2024) per Taxi zur\u00fcckbringen lassen. Eine gute Option f\u00fcr alle, die sich etwas weniger verausgaben wollen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
